"Lucinda tore the medical brace from six-year-old Ruby’s leg—
and watched her collapse.
“Pain will make you stronger.”
Salvatore rushed to his daughter.
Ruby was crying.
“Daddy… she takes it whenever you leave.”
The ballroom went completely silent.
Salvatore slowly looked at Lucinda.
“Whenever I leave?”
Lucinda said nothing.
Then one of the bodyguards stepped forward.
“Boss…”
He handed Salvatore a small memory card.
The ballroom security system had recorded the previous birthday preparations.
Salvatore opened the footage.
Lucinda appeared again.
And again.
Removing Ruby’s brace whenever Salvatore left the room.
Then one recording captured her voice.
“If she keeps limping, Salvatore keeps feeling sorry for her.”
Ruby buried her face against her father.
Lucinda suddenly reached for the memory card.
Salvatore stopped her.
“So you knew she was injured.”
Silence.
“You just hated that my daughter received my attention.”
Lucinda’s face drained.
Salvatore handed the evidence to his bodyguard.
“You wanted her to learn pain.”
