Chapter 10 - The Man Who Carried My Mother’s SecretThe vault became completely silent.

Nobody looked away from Thomas.

Not even for a second.

Because Bianca’s words had changed everything.

“Ask Thomas.”

The man who had appeared as my protector.

The man who claimed he was my father’s brother.

The man who brought me the truth.

Was suddenly the person everyone questioned.

Thomas stood at the entrance of the vault.

His face was unreadable.

But his silence said more than words.

Daniel stepped forward.

“Thomas.”

His voice was cold.

“What is she talking about?”

Thomas didn’t answer.

Richard looked disappointed.

“Tell us.”

A long pause.

Then Thomas slowly walked into the vault.

“I knew this day would come.”

My heart tightened.

“What does that mean?”

He looked at me.

“Your mother asked me to keep one final secret.”

I shook my head.

“Another secret?”

My voice cracked.

“Everyone keeps saying they’re protecting me.”

A pause.

“But nobody ever tells me the truth.”

Thomas lowered his eyes.

“You’re right.”

For the first time…

Someone admitted it.

“I made a mistake.”

Bianca laughed.

“A mistake?”

She stepped closer.

“You stole the truth from her for years.”

Thomas looked at her.

“And you destroyed her family for power.”

The smile disappeared from Bianca’s face.

Everyone noticed.

Because for the first time…

She looked angry.

Not confident.

Angry.

I looked at Thomas.

“What did my mother ask you to hide?”

He took a deep breath.

“The identity of your real father.”

The room froze.

Again.

Another secret.

Another piece of my life I never knew.

I stared at him.

“Richard already told me.”

Thomas shook his head.

“No.”

A pause.

“He only told you part of it.”

Richard looked confused.

“What are you talking about?”

Thomas reached into his coat.

He pulled out an old envelope.

One I recognized immediately.

My mother’s handwriting.

My name.

Emily.

I felt my chest tighten.

“Why do you have that?”

Thomas looked at the envelope.

“Because your mother gave it to me the night she disappeared.”

The room went silent.

“She told me if anything happened…”

A pause.

“I had to wait until you were ready.”

I took the envelope.

My fingers trembled.

Inside was a letter.

A real letter.

From my mother.

I opened it.

My dear Emily,

The first line already broke me.

If you are reading this, then you finally know the truth I spent my life trying to protect.

I continued.

Your father was not a powerful man because of money.

He was powerful because he refused to let corrupt people control him.

I looked up.

Thomas watched me.

I kept reading.

The people who came after us were not interested in the house.

They were afraid of what your father discovered.

A pause.

A secret organization that controlled businesses, politicians, and people with influence.

My breathing slowed.

Bianca wasn’t just after money.

She was part of something bigger.

The letter continued.

But the most dangerous person was not the one holding the weapon.

It was the person who convinced everyone the weapon was necessary.

I looked at Thomas.

Then Richard.

Then Bianca.

Who?

I turned the page.

And froze.

The person controlling everything was someone we trusted completely.

A pause.

Someone inside our family.

The room became tense.

Daniel whispered:

“Who?”

I kept reading.

The next sentence made my hands go cold.

It was not Victoria.

Everyone looked surprised.

It was not Richard.

Richard exhaled.

Then the final line appeared.

It was the person who raised Emily’s father.

Silence.

I looked up.

“Raised my father?”

Thomas nodded slowly.

“The person who started all of this.”

Bianca suddenly laughed.

“You still don’t understand.”

Everyone turned.

She smiled.

“You’re all looking for one villain.”

A pause.

“But the truth is much worse.”

She pointed toward the documents.

“Your family built this empire on secrets.”

Richard’s expression hardened.

“That’s a lie.”

Bianca shook her head.

“Is it?”

She looked at me.

“Ask yourself why your parents trusted strangers instead of their own family.”

I felt a chill.

Because that question had haunted me.

Why did everyone hide?

Why did everyone lie?

Then Bianca revealed something that made the entire room freeze.

“Your mother didn’t disappear.”

I looked at her.

“What?”

“She escaped.”

A pause.

“She left because she discovered the final secret.”

Thomas stepped forward.

“Stop.”

Bianca smiled.

“No.”

She looked at me.

“Emily deserves the truth.”

She pointed at the old documents.

“Your mother found out your father had another child.”

Everyone froze.

Daniel looked shocked.

“What?”

Bianca continued:

“Another heir.”

I felt dizzy.

Another child?

Another secret?

Thomas looked at me.

“I was going to tell you.”

“When?”

He had no answer.

Bianca smiled.

“That child is the reason your parents died.”

The vault went silent.

I stared at her.

“Who?”

Bianca slowly walked toward the exit.

“You’ll find out soon.”

She stopped.

Then looked back.

“Because that person has been closer to you than you realize.”

The lights suddenly went out.

A loud crash came from the entrance.

When the emergency lights turned back on…

Bianca was gone.

But she left something behind.

A photograph.

I picked it up.

My hands started shaking.

Because the person in the picture…

Standing beside my mother…

Was someone I saw every day.

Someone I trusted.

Someone I never suspected.

Daniel looked over my shoulder.

His face turned pale.

“Emily…”

I looked at him.

May you like

Because the photograph showed…

My husband.
