Chapter 14 - The Woman Behind Every SecretThe woman’s words echoed through the vault.

“Your real enemy was never trying to destroy your family.”
A pause.
“She was trying to inherit it.”
Nobody moved.
Nobody knew what to say.
Because the woman standing in front of us had just claimed responsibility for everything.
The secrets.
The lies.
The destruction of my family.
I stared at her.
“Who are you?”
She smiled.
“You know who I am.”
I shook my head.
“No.”
A pause.
“I don’t.”
Her expression changed slightly.
“You should.”
She looked at Richard.
“Tell her.”
Richard looked away.
For the first time…
I saw fear in his eyes.
Not anger.
Not guilt.
Fear.
“Richard.”
My voice trembled.
“Who is she?”
He took a long breath.
“Her name is Eleanor Vance.”
The name meant nothing to me.
But everyone else reacted.
Daniel stepped back.
“My great-grandmother.”
I looked at him.
“What?”
Eleanor smiled.
“Exactly.”
The room became colder.
A woman who was supposed to be dead…
Was standing in front of us.
“How are you alive?”
Thomas asked.
Eleanor looked at him.
“You still think death is the greatest secret?”
A pause.
“You spent years looking in the wrong direction.”
She walked toward the table.
She picked up the old documents.
“Everyone blamed Bianca.”
She smiled.
“She was easy to blame.”
I stared at her.
“You used her.”
Eleanor nodded.
“Yes.”
The honesty shocked everyone.
“She was ambitious.”
A pause.
“Greedy.”
Another pause.
“And desperate to belong to power.”
Her eyes turned cold.
“People like that are easy to control.”
Daniel clenched his fists.
“You ruined my family.”
Eleanor looked at him.
“No.”
A pause.
“I improved it.”
Everyone stared.
She continued:
“Your family was weak because it was built on emotions.”
She looked at me.
“Your father loved too much.”
“Your mother trusted too much.”
“And you…”
She smiled.
“You were the biggest mistake.”
My heart tightened.
“Why?”
Eleanor stepped closer.
“Because Alexander chose you over everything.”
A pause.
“He was willing to lose his empire to save his daughter.”
She shook her head.
“A terrible business decision.”
I stared at her.
“You’re talking about my life like it was a business deal.”
She smiled.
“Because it was.”
The words made my blood run cold.
Richard finally spoke.
“Enough.”
Everyone turned.
His voice was stronger now.
“You destroyed enough.”
Eleanor looked at him.
“You still pretend to be the hero.”
A pause.
“But you forget.”
“You helped me.”
The room froze.
I looked at Richard.
“What?”
Richard closed his eyes.
Eleanor smiled.
“Tell her.”
Richard remained silent.
“Tell Emily how you helped me hide Alexander’s evidence.”
My heart dropped.
Richard looked at me.
“I never wanted to.”
“But you did.”
Eleanor said.
Richard’s face filled with regret.
“I was protecting my son.”
Daniel looked shocked.
“Dad…”
Richard looked at him.
“I thought I could control the situation.”
A pause.
“I was wrong.”
I stepped back.
“So everyone was right.”
My voice broke.
“Everyone lied.”
Daniel moved toward me.
“Emily…”
I stopped him.
“No.”
A pause.
“I need to understand.”
I looked at Richard.
“Did you know who my father was?”
“Yes.”
“Did you know my mother was alive?”
“Yes.”
“Did you know Daniel was connected to my past?”
Richard hesitated.
That hesitation answered everything.
I closed my eyes.
The pain was worse than anger.
Because I had trusted him.
Eleanor watched quietly.
She enjoyed seeing us break.
That was when I realized something.
She didn’t want money.
She wanted control.
She wanted everyone divided.
I looked at her.
“You planned all of this.”
She smiled.
“Yes.”
“The marriage?”
“Yes.”
“Bianca?”
“Yes.”
“My mother disappearing?”
A pause.
“Yes.”
The room went silent.
“You destroyed my family.”
Eleanor corrected me.
“No.”
A pause.
“I removed the weak pieces.”
My anger finally overcame my fear.
“You don’t get to decide who matters.”
Everyone looked at me.
Even Eleanor.
Because for the first time…
I wasn’t afraid of her.
I continued:
“My parents loved me.”
A pause.
“Richard protected me.”
Another pause.
“And even Daniel…”
I looked at him.
“Even with all his mistakes, he tried to change.”
Eleanor’s expression hardened.
“You sound like your father.”
I smiled slightly.
“Maybe that’s why you’re afraid.”
Silence.
Then Eleanor laughed.
“You think you’ve won?”
She pulled out a small device.
Everyone froze.
“What is that?”
Daniel asked.
Eleanor pressed a button.
The vault doors locked.
Again.
A screen turned on.
A countdown appeared.
10:00
Thomas looked alarmed.
“What did you do?”
Eleanor smiled.
“Insurance.”
Richard stepped forward.
“Let them go.”
She ignored him.
Then she looked at me.
“Emily.”
A pause.
“You wanted the truth.”
The screen changed.
A video appeared.
My mother.
But this time…
She was not alone.
Standing beside her…
Was Alexander.
My father.
Alive.
My breath stopped.
Eleanor smiled.
“The final secret.”
A pause.
“The reason your parents disappeared.”
She looked at me.
“Because they chose to betray me.”
The video started.
Alexander looked directly at the camera.
His voice was weak.
But clear.
“Emily, if you see this…”
A pause.
“It means Eleanor found you.”
Everyone froze.
Then my father said the words that changed everything:
“She will tell you that she created your life.”
A pause.
“But she didn’t.”
The screen flickered.
“She tried to destroy it.”
Eleanor’s smile disappeared.
For the first time…
She looked afraid.
Because Alexander’s recording continued.
“The person who has the original evidence…”
A pause.
“Is not Eleanor.”
Everyone looked confused.
Then Alexander said:
“It is Emily.”
The room went silent.
I froze.
Me?
The final evidence…
Was with me?
Eleanor’s expression changed.
Because she knew.
May you like
The thing she had spent years searching for…
Was already in my possession.
