Chapter 8 - The Diary That Changed EverythingThe diary lay open on my bed.

My mother’s handwriting.
Words she had written years ago.
Words she never thought I would read.
I stared at the first page.
“Emily, if you found this, it means I failed to protect you.”
My hands started shaking.
Because my entire life…
I had believed my parents left me.
I believed I was alone.
But this diary proved one thing.
They never abandoned me.
Someone took them away.
Daniel stood beside me.
For once…
He didn’t know what to say.
Neither did I.
I turned the page.
The next words made my heart stop.
“The man Emily calls her father is not the person she believes him to be.”
I stopped reading.
Everyone in the room went silent.
Richard looked away.
Victoria closed her eyes.
Thomas whispered:
“She finally found it.”
I looked at him.
“You knew about this diary?”
He nodded.
“I knew it existed.”
“Why didn’t you give it to me?”
His expression filled with regret.
“Because your mother asked me not to.”
I almost laughed.
Another promise.
Another person deciding what I was allowed to know.
I looked back at the diary.
And kept reading.
“Emily, there is a truth you must learn before you trust anyone.”
A pause.
“The man who raised you was not your enemy.”
My breathing stopped.
I looked up.
“What?”
Everyone looked confused.
I read the next lines.
“He was forced to make an impossible choice.”
I frowned.
“Then who was the enemy?”
Nobody answered.
Then the diary continued.
“The person who destroyed our family was someone we welcomed into our home.”
A cold feeling moved through me.
Because I already knew that feeling.
Someone close.
Someone trusted.
Someone who smiled while hiding a knife.
I turned the page.
And a name appeared.
My fingers froze.
Bianca Moretti.
Daniel looked shocked.
“She was involved from the beginning?”
Thomas nodded.
“Yes.”
I looked at the diary.
My mother had known.
She knew Bianca was dangerous.
But why?
I continued reading.
“Bianca did not want the house.”
“She wanted what was hidden beneath it.”
I looked at Richard.
“What is beneath this house?”
Richard stayed silent.
Thomas answered.
“A vault.”
Everyone turned.
“A vault?”
I asked.
Thomas nodded.
“Your family built it decades ago.”
“What’s inside?”
He looked at me.
“The evidence.”
“The evidence against Bianca?”
“Against everyone who helped her.”
The room became silent.
Then Daniel spoke.
“Why would my family be involved?”
Nobody answered.
Because the answer was painful.
Richard finally said:
“Because some people choose money over blood.”
Daniel looked at his father.
“Who?”
Richard looked at Victoria.
The room froze.
Daniel stepped back.
“No.”
Victoria’s eyes filled with tears.
“I never wanted this.”
I looked at her.
“Then why did you help them?”
She shook her head.
“I didn’t know how deep it went.”
Thomas interrupted.
“You knew enough.”
Victoria looked at him.
“I tried to fix it.”
“Too late.”
The words hurt.
Because they were true.
Then suddenly…
The diary fell from my hands.
A hidden page had opened.
A page stuck together.
I carefully separated it.
Inside was a small photograph.
A photograph of my mother.
Standing beside another woman.
A woman I recognized.
My blood went cold.
Because it was Bianca.
But they weren’t fighting.
They weren’t enemies.
They looked close.
Like friends.
On the back of the picture…
My mother had written:
“The person I trusted most became the person I feared most.”
Everyone stared.
Daniel whispered:
“Your mother knew Bianca personally.”
I nodded slowly.
But there was more.
Another sentence.
“If Bianca ever finds Emily, she will tell her a beautiful lie.”
My heart raced.
A beautiful lie?
I continued.
“She will make Emily believe she is helping her.”
“But she is only trying to take back what she lost.”
Then the final line.
The line that changed everything.
“Emily, the truth about your birth is hidden inside the house.”
I froze.
My birth?
Richard looked shocked.
“What?”
Thomas stepped closer.
“Your mother never told you?”
“Told me what?”
Nobody spoke.
Then Victoria whispered:
“Emily…”
Her voice trembled.
“There is something about your birth certificate.”
I looked at her.
“What?”
She swallowed.
“The one you have…”
A pause.
“It was changed.”
The room went silent.
Daniel stared.
“Changed?”
Victoria nodded.
“Your real identity was hidden.”
I felt dizzy.
“My identity?”
Thomas looked at the diary.
“Your parents weren’t protecting the house.”
A pause.
“They were protecting you.”
Suddenly…
The security alarm started.
Everyone turned.
A guard’s voice came through the speaker.
“Someone has entered the basement.”
Richard immediately looked toward the floor.
The basement.
The place nobody had entered for years.
The place where the hidden vault was supposed to be.
Then another message appeared on the security screen.
A live video.
Bianca.
She was standing inside the basement.
Holding something in her hand.
She smiled at the camera.
“Emily.”
Everyone froze.
“You spent your whole life searching for the truth.”
She lifted a small key.
“But you forgot one thing.”
A pause.
“The truth belongs to whoever finds it first.”
She looked directly at the camera.
“And tonight…”
Her smile widened.
“I’m opening the vault.”
The screen went black.
And everyone realized…
May you like
The secret hidden inside the house…
Was about to be revealed.
