Chapter 12 - The Bloodline Nobody Wanted Me To KnowThe DNA report sat on the table.

A single piece of paper.
But it felt heavier than anything I had ever held.
Because my entire life…
Had just been rewritten.
I stared at the name.
The name of the man who was supposedly my biological father.
And I couldn’t understand.
How could the person connected to my birth…
Be the same person who had spent years destroying everything around me?
Daniel looked at the report.
His face changed.
“No.”
He shook his head.
“This can’t be right.”
Victoria looked at him.
“It is.”
The room went silent.
Richard stepped forward.
“Victoria.”
His voice was low.
“Explain.”
She looked at me.
“I should have told you years ago.”
A bitter smile crossed my face.
“Everyone says that.”
A pause.
“But nobody ever does.”
Victoria lowered her eyes.
“You’re right.”
For once…
She didn’t defend herself.
She didn’t blame anyone else.
She simply admitted it.
“I was afraid.”
I stared at her.
“Afraid of what?”
She took a deep breath.
“Of him.”
Everyone waited.
“Who?”
Victoria looked at the DNA report.
“Your father.”
My heart tightened.
“Who is he?”
She hesitated.
Then whispered a name.
A name that made Richard step backward.
A name that made Thomas go silent.
A name that made Daniel’s face turn pale.
“Alexander Carter.”
My breathing stopped.
Because I knew that name.
Everyone did.
The billionaire businessman.
The man who disappeared fifteen years ago.
The man people believed was dead.
The man whose empire had collapsed after a massive scandal.
I looked at Thomas.
“Why does everyone know him?”
Thomas answered quietly.
“Because he was the person your parents were trying to expose.”
Silence.
I looked back at Victoria.
“You’re saying my father was the enemy?”
Victoria shook her head.
“No.”
A pause.
“He was both.”
I frowned.
“What does that mean?”
She looked at me.
“Alexander Carter built the organization your parents discovered.”
A pause.
“But later…”
Her voice became softer.
“He realized what he created had become something evil.”
Thomas nodded.
“He tried to destroy it from inside.”
I looked confused.
“Then why did everyone say he was dangerous?”
“Because powerful people needed him to look like the villain.”
The room became silent.
My entire life…
Had been built on incomplete truths.
Daniel stepped closer.
“Emily.”
I looked at him.
“I need to tell you something.”
I didn’t respond.
But he continued.
“When I first met you…”
A pause.
“It wasn’t an accident.”
My heart sank.
“What?”
Daniel looked ashamed.
“My grandfather wanted me to find you.”
Everyone froze.
“You knew who I was?”
He shook his head.
“Not at first.”
A pause.
“I only knew there was someone connected to the Carter family.”
I stared at him.
“So our relationship…”
He immediately shook his head.
“No.”
His voice cracked.
“Emily, whatever happened after I met you was real.”
“But you approached me because of my identity.”
Silence.
That silence was enough.
I looked away.
Because I didn’t know what hurt more.
The lies.
Or the fact that some parts of our relationship were built on them.
Then the vault lights flickered.
Everyone turned.
A small screen on the wall suddenly turned on.
Static.
Then a video appeared.
My mother.
Everyone froze.
Isabella.
Older than the photos.
Tired.
But alive.
My hands covered my mouth.
“Mom…”
The video played.
Her voice filled the vault.
“Emily, if you are seeing this, then the truth has finally reached you.”
Tears filled my eyes.
“I’m sorry.”
A pause.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t be the mother you deserved.”
I couldn’t breathe.
She continued.
“But there is one thing I need you to understand.”
The screen showed old documents.
“Your father was never trying to destroy you.”
A pause.
“He was trying to protect you from himself.”
Everyone looked confused.
I whispered:
“What does that mean?”
The video continued.
“Alexander knew the only way to keep you alive was to make the world believe he had lost everything.”
A pause.
“Including you.”
My heart broke.
Because all those years…
I thought I was abandoned.
But maybe…
I was hidden.
My mother continued:
“The person who betrayed us was not Alexander.”
The room became tense.
“It was the person who convinced him to disappear.”
The screen showed an old photograph.
A young Alexander.
Standing beside someone.
Everyone froze.
Because the person beside him…
Was someone we knew.
Someone still alive.
Someone standing in the vault.
Victoria whispered:
“No…”
The photograph showed…
Richard.
My eyes widened.
“What?”
Richard stepped back.
“I can explain.”
But the video continued.
My mother’s voice became urgent.
“Emily, if Richard is with you when you see this…”
Everyone stopped.
“Do not trust him.”
The screen went black.
Nobody spoke.
I slowly turned toward Richard.
The man who defended me.
The man who saved me.
The man who seemed to be the only honest person in this family.
And now…
My mother had warned me about him.
Richard looked at me.
“Emily, listen to me.”
But before he could say more…
The vault door suddenly locked.
A loud metallic sound echoed.
Everyone turned.
The security system activated.
A message appeared on the screen.
VAULT SEALED
Then another message appeared.
ONE PERSON INSIDE IS LYING.
The lights went dark.
And in the darkness…
Someone whispered.
“Emily…”
A voice I recognized.
But it wasn’t Richard.
It wasn’t Daniel.
It was Bianca.
“You finally understand.”
A pause.
May you like
“The truth was never hidden from you.”
“It was hidden inside the people you trusted.”
